Ahmed Moneka is a Juno-nominated Iraqi-Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto, known for blending music, theatre, and film into a deeply expressive creative practice. Originally from Baghdad, Iraq, and influenced by Afro-Sufi traditions, he is the founder and leader of Moneka Arabic Jazz, a project that fuses Arabic folk melodies with jazz, funk, soul, and global rhythms. His work often reflects themes of migration, identity, and cultural connection, shaped by his journey from Iraq to Canada and his background in both music and acting. Alongside his music career, Moneka has appeared in theatre and film, contributing to productions such as The Blind Ferryman and The Society. As a recording artist, he has released albums including Bridge (2023) and Kanzafula (2024), both showcasing his evolving blend of traditional Middle Eastern sounds with contemporary jazz influences. He is also active in live performance circuits, regularly touring festivals and venues across Canada and internationally. Moneka continues to expand his artistic reach through interdisciplinary collaborations, bringing together storytelling, rhythm, and cultural heritage in a distinctive and evolving body of work.
